Since 1988, Diana Read-Miedema has been a conscientious and ethical professional bookkeeper who strives for excellence and always tried to be audit-proof. Diana strongly believes in and practices “lifelong learning”.   Diana wrote and taught three courses at NSCC Truro in 2000: Small Business Bookkeeping, Simply Accounting, and Understanding Financial Statements.

For a little history, Diana completed Accounting 1 & 2 at Georgian College Barrie in 1980 and was a bookkeeper for a few Ontario companies and NPOs. In December 1988 Diana got certified by The Canadian School of Tax Accounting, and started her own tax and bookkeeping business at home because the children were only 5, 3 and 1.  This was a life-saver because when her husband died of cancer weeks later in February 1989, not leaving any life insurance, Diana was able by God’s grace to join the Ontario Skills Program and get computerized.
In January 1990, Diana joined The Association of Professional Accounting & Tax Consultants. In September 1991, the young family of four moved to Halifax, Diana’s birthplace… drawn by the smell of salty ocean waves and lower housing costs. In July 1992, they moved an hour north to the Town of Truro, pop 13,000.
In 1997, Diana passed two levels of CGA but could not continue due to her three children excelling at regional, provincial and national  science fairs which always  occurred in tax season and required drives to Halifax university libraries, environment & engineering experts, specialty & educational stores, Kent Building, Staples, and interviewees. So lifelong learning took a different form and has cost well over $60,000:

  • Tax Update Conferences : APA&TC, Knowledge Bureau
  • Simply Accounting Partnership Conferences
  • Annual tax guides from CCH, CICA, Evelyn Jacks, KPMG
  • Business seminars including exporting
  • Entrepreneurial tradeshows
  • Memberships in  3 Chambers of  Commerce (HFX, Truro, E. Hants)
  • Microsoft Action Pak Partner as an accounting firm
